SIX POINTS WHERE LARGE PROJECTS LOSE MONEY

Disputed progress levels
Monthly valuation rests on estimates and site walks. Any discrepancy between client, main contractor and subcontractor means weeks of negotiation and withheld payment.
Deviations spotted too late
A misplaced penetration or structural element surfaces only once it has been covered up. Fixing it costs orders of magnitude more than the survey that would have prevented it.
Earthworks and material quantities
Excavated and placed volumes are billed from delivery notes and cross sections. The actual volume of stockpiles is rarely verified against independent data.
High-risk manual inspection
Inspecting roofs, façades and tall structures requires scaffolding, rope access or a lift — safety risk, permitting and downtime all at once.
Proving subcontractor performance
In a dispute it is photographs against memory. There is no time-stamped, geometrically reliable record of the state of works to fall back on.
As-built documentation
The as-built dataset requested at handover is often reconstructed afterwards from memory. The model handed to the operator therefore does not describe what was actually built.

PROGRESS AND VALUATION
Before every valuation cycle the survey follows the same methodology, so cycles remain comparable. Registering the point cloud to the design model shows element by element what has been built and what has not.
DEVIATION ANALYSIS
The difference between the built structure and the design model appears on a colour-coded map. Deviations can be read in millimetres, with critical points listed.
VOLUME CALCULATION
Drone photogrammetry with RTK correction: excavated or placed volume is computed directly from the difference between two terrain models.
RISK-FREE INSPECTION
Surveying façades, roof structures and tall structures without human entry. Where scaffolding or rope access used to be required, a flight plan and a licensed pilot now do the work.
STATE RECORDING
Time-stamped, geo-referenced imagery and a point cloud from every cycle. In a dispute you can cite measurement data instead of memory.
AS-BUILT MODEL
The as-built model is not produced from memory at the end of the project; it grows continuously from data collected during construction.
